Below, is a break down of the topics we cover in Year 6.

At BPSP, our ambitious, vibrant and inclusive curriculum has been developed with the intention of providing all our learners with key knowledge and skills for long-term learning and with the cultural capital to become responsible and valuable citizens in our modern society.

From Year 3 through to Year 6, we study a wide variety of subjects, making cross-curricular links where relevant (see curriculum overviews on the school website for more detail) In addition, we regularly recap and revisit previous knowledge so it can be recalled and applied to different contexts in order to deepen the learning experience for all children.

Summer 2

English – We will be working across a variety of genres for this half term: a narrative based on a picture book; instructions; a non-chronological report; a rap and a persuasive piece of writing.

Music – This term, we will be focusing on composition. We will explore how to use a variety of instruments to create music around the theme of the rainforest.

French – We conclude our Year 6 French studies by preparing a presentation about ourselves where we will recap and use all our learning from Year 6. In addition, we will read some French stories and learn about some aspects of life in France.

DT – We will be using our knowledge from our Science Electricity topic to make a game using Maya Civilisation as our inspiration.

Computing– We are learning about a variety of Microsoft Office platforms this half term, transferring skills from one application to another.

PHSE – Following the SCARF programme, we have a weekly lesson exploring, ‘Changing and Growing’. We also enjoy our STORMBREAK sessions - a mental health and well-being programme. 

Physical Education – We enjoy being outside this term and will be revising and developing the skills required to play rounders, cricket and mini tennis. We also play handball, take part in athletic activities as well as develop resilience and leadership skills.  

Geography- In our Geography unit this half term, we learn about volcanos and earthquakes in South America then across the wider world.

Science – we are learning about Light this half term, learning key knowledge and conducting experiments.

Religious Education: During RE this half term, we are going to focus our thoughts, discussions and learning on BIG questions surrounding God, faith and Christianity, concentrating on Creation and The Fall and the connections with Science.
