Year 6
As a school, we follow the primary National Curriculum for Key Stage 2.
https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum#programmes-of-study-by-subject
Below, is a break down of the topics we cover in Year 6.
At BPSP, our ambitious, vibrant and inclusive curriculum has been developed with the intention of providing all our learners with key knowledge and skills for long-term learning and with the cultural capital to become responsible and valuable citizens in our modern society.
From Year 3 through to Year 6, we study a wide variety of subjects, making cross-curricular links where relevant (see curriculum overviews on the school website for more detail) In addition, we regularly recap and revisit previous knowledge so it can be recalled and applied to different contexts in order to deepen the learning experience for all children.
If you would like any further information regarding our curriculum, please contact the school office at office@bpsp.coastalpartnership.co.uk.

English – Using quality texts as a stimulus, we are writing a non-chronological report on a fictional island. In addition to this, we are writing a selection of short burst pieces of varying genres.
Music – We are using our steel pan skills to play a piece from South America. Our focus musician will be Santana. As well as building on existing skills, we will look at how to improvise using notes from a specific key.
French – In our weekly lesson, we are learning vocabulary and language linked with food and drink.
Computing Internet safety underpins all that we do and this half term and we introduce Coding.
Reading – We have two weekly lessons to develop and enhance a variety of reading skills through a wide range of quality texts. As part of our school day, we have a dedicated ERIC time four times a week.
Physical Education – we are working at a variety of skills and sports across our two timetabled PE sessions.
PHSE – Following the SCARF programme we have a weekly lesson exploring, ‘Valuing Difference’. We enjoy our STORMBREAK sessions. - a mental health and well-being programme.
Science - We are investigating classification, inheritance and evolution. Our Science lessons really enhance our geography this half term and vice-versa!
Geography: We are looking at the Galapagos Islands with a focus on our wider world, weather and climate, conservation and sustainability.
Religious Education:
We dedicate our lessons to learning about God. Through discussion, we question and think about what God means to Christians.
Maths – Please see separate overview for more detail.
Art- Super exciting…we are going to make MOD ROC masks. The masks are decorated taking inspiration from South America and the Galapagos Islands.
